I'm glad you're here

In March 2009 I accepted my own personal challenge to be Vegan for 6 weeks. I would say that I was 95% successful which I consider to be a major triumph. It wasn't as hard as I made it up to be in my head, and it felt good inside to be aligned with my intense desire to be someone who reveres all living things.

At the end of those 6 weeks I reassessed how I wanted to be going forward. And although I aspire to be vegan 100% ... what I'm choosing for now is to be vegan(ish). So what does that mean? Well, to me it means (and by that I mean today), that I no longer eat meat, and if I choose to have cheese, eggs or fish ... it has to be for a really, really good reason. And the really good reasons must be the exception and not the rule.

So why a blog you may ask? Well I'm guessing that there are lots of people like me who have thought about it or may be trying it and would like a little extra support. Here we can share what's hard, or in the way of making the vegan leap with humor and compassion, and without judgment or guilt.

I happen to be a Professional Certified Coach and have been since 1998. So let's coach! Yes, let's coach here online. I'll help you to identify the values you want to honor, see what inner saboteurs are lurking in the shadows, support you in creativing a compelling vision, identify clear action and even provide accountability if you want it. If you're reading this I know that you want something to be different with your food choices. Maybe you're motivated by health issues, maybe it's animal rights, or about protecting the environment. Whatever it is let's help each other create the food-life we most want to be having ... now.

"I could never be Vegan"

I hear this all the time. I mean ALL the time. And not just about being vegan ... but about lots of things in life. So what does "I could never ... " really mean anyway? Does it mean "I don't want to", or does it mean "I don't know how"? My sense is that someone may be saying "I could never make that choice" whatever that choice may be. And why not? Well if you add the word "because" my guess is that you will then hear all the excuses, justifications, and life circumstances that make it seem insurmountable. "Because it's too hard, because I won't get enough protein, because I don't have time to figure it out, because my family won't get on board and I don't want to make separate meals, because you only live once and I want to enjoy it all".

So let's abandon this "could never" language ... it's not especially empowering and makes it sound like we're not at choice. I'd much prefer to hear someone simply say "I don't want to be vegan, it's not for me". Or, "I'd love to be vegan and I can't imagine how I'll ever get there". Your thoughts?
